Are we there yet?

If your idea of fun is to head for someplace unknown to you...

If you have no expectation of a protected personal "bubble" in the vehicle...

If you love the anticipation as much or more than the moment...

If your carpet needs replaced, your house needs painted, and your bathroom lighting needs fixed but you're saving every buck for this trip anyway...

If the thought of flying instead of driving leaves you depressed...

If you dream of windows down, music up, sunshine all around...

...then you might be one of us (wanna road trip?!? Wait - we aren't very good at caravans...).

Welcome to our Road Trip blog - our journal/venting/glimpse-into-our-life documentation of the planning and adventure of our June 2014 trip across the country. We hope you follow along with us, give suggestions and helpful hints, and generally enjoy the thoughts and pictures of more than 6000 miles of the U.S.A.

Another reason we are blogging the trip is because our kiddos are very involved in the planning, and this is a place for them to record the ideas and the process, so they can remember their part in it all one day.

We're very thankful that the Captain has enough vacation time for a trip like this. We've been saving our pennies for a LONG time, and are almost to our $ goal (maybe if we don't make it, we'll just stop wherever the money runs out and live there?).

We have a general idea of our plans - we'll post more about details as we go - but are very open to change. Let's go!

  2. What a cool blog. I will be following! We did this a few years ago. It was SOOOO MUCH fun. Our favorite places were Yellowstone, The Badlands and Mount Rushmore. Also some great National Parks in Utah. If you don't mind, I will ride vicariously along for the ride :)

  4. Between 2 & 3 I would recommend Monument Valley AZ. And the north side of the canyon it is much cooler temperatures and greener and then into Utah's Zion National park. Looking forward to following your progress. ~ Uncle Frank
