Let the Music Move You

There are times when I think we are taking this road trip just to make a playlist (ok, that may just be me).

We started it in February, on one of those really cold snowy days when we felt that June would never come. California Dreamin' by The Mamas and the Papas got us through.

All seven have to agree for the song to go on the official Road Trip playlist, even if Levi keeps trying to sneak songs on it. We'll make a "loud" playlist too, and some that are for "calmer" times. But this one is the songs to remember as we make the memories. So the bar is high.

Here's what we have So Far:
- We Will All be Changed
- In the Summertime
- Caaalifornia
- California Dreamin'
- Life is a Highway
- Brighter than the Sun
- Say Hey (I Love you)
- I've been Everywhere
- Happy
- Walkin' on Sunshine
- (Your Love keeps Lifting me) Higher
- Million Pieces

Can you help us out?!? What song is a MUST?

LeMoN

Last but not least, the oldest...

Hello I’m Lemon, and I am 3.74 squared years old. My personal favorite thing to do would be playing basketball with my friends, or dad (whoever is available).
Currently the place i am most looking forward to going would probably be Las Vegas; no not for the gambling, but for the hotel with an indoor amusement park, 18 restaurants (a HUGE breakfast buffet :D ) , and 40,000 square feet of shopping.

I’ll keep you informed,

Lemon

Slim Jim

Hi, this is Slim Jim. I am eleven years old and in fifth grade. I can't wait to go on the trip this June. We have so many things planed, like going to a beach house in CAand seeing Yellowstone.

This is going to be the best vacation ever! My favorite place that we are going to is probably my cousin Evan's house.

The reason that my name is Slim Jim is because I love Slim Jims. My mom made a joke and said that I should be barf bag because last time last time we were on a long vacation I threw up.

I can't wait to go!

Flip Flop

Hello everyone! I'm Flip Flop. I am SUPER-EXCITED for this trip. I am really looking forward to all the places we get to see, especially the shopping and the malls. :) I am in the 7th grade right now, and I am twelve years old and I'll be 13 in July.

I really hope everyone can listen in the whole way, get to see our status and everything. One of the sights on the way that I really want to stay in is the roller coaster hotel in Las Vegas. It's alright, you can be jealous. :) I hope you all enjoy the pictures and the videos we post. California here we come!

Are we there yet?

If your idea of fun is to head for someplace unknown to you...

If you have no expectation of a protected personal "bubble" in the vehicle...

If you love the anticipation as much or more than the moment...

If your carpet needs replaced, your house needs painted, and your bathroom lighting needs fixed but you're saving every buck for this trip anyway...

If the thought of flying instead of driving leaves you depressed...

If you dream of windows down, music up, sunshine all around...

...then you might be one of us (wanna road trip?!? Wait - we aren't very good at caravans...).

Welcome to our Road Trip blog - our journal/venting/glimpse-into-our-life documentation of the planning and adventure of our June 2014 trip across the country. We hope you follow along with us, give suggestions and helpful hints, and generally enjoy the thoughts and pictures of more than 6000 miles of the U.S.A.

Another reason we are blogging the trip is because our kiddos are very involved in the planning, and this is a place for them to record the ideas and the process, so they can remember their part in it all one day.

We're very thankful that the Captain has enough vacation time for a trip like this. We've been saving our pennies for a LONG time, and are almost to our $ goal (maybe if we don't make it, we'll just stop wherever the money runs out and live there?).

We have a general idea of our plans - we'll post more about details as we go - but are very open to change. Let's go!
